Video Doctor Appointment?

February 10, 2020 By kenyonp

Many insurance carriers have started offering doctor appointments by video. This adds another option instead of going to the emergency room. When would it be a good idea to use?

Many Insurance Carriers won’t charge you for the video call if they determine you need to be seen in person

Low Grade Fevers

When you or a child has had a low grade fever for some time, you may feel that going to the doctor would be a waste because there probably isn’t something wrong. However, you have that thought that maybe it could be something more. This is a great opportunity to use the video doctor appointment. If you have a thermometer at home, you can check their temperature and let the doctor know. They will ask you questions and give you advice on how to control the fever. They will also tell you what to look for and if things change, when to go to the doctor office.

Be seen by a doctor when even when you can’t leave your home.

Getting Over A Cold

You have been dealing with a cold for a few days and have decided you need something to help you get over it but you aren’t sure what to do. The doctor will be able to write you a prescription for something. Now you just need to go pick it up! They can write prescriptions for many products and instead of making two trips out, you just need to make one to the pharmacy!

Getting Sick While Traveling

You are away from home, maybe in a different state. You are unsure about how to use your health insurance and not get stuck with the high cost of using and out of network provider. Use the video! You will be able to be seen by a doctor in network and if you need a prescription, you will be able to pick it up locally!

The Benefits

Being able to video with a doctor can be beneficial in many scenarios. If you are worried about being contagious and don’t want to get anyone else sick, if you don’t have a ride to the doctor’s office, if you are away from home or out of your network. These are all great examples of how video visits can help. Most insurance carriers even offer to not charge for the video visit if the doctor decides you need to be seen in person!
